Last Long Run!

Thursday, Nov 12th, 2009 – the first 10 mile run I did as part of my training for this year.

Yesterday – Saturday, Nov 6th, 2010 – the last 10 mile run I will do as part of my training for this year.

It’s hard to believe I’m starting to wind down the year.  My 11th race is Saturday in Richmond.  Three weeks after that we head to Las Vegas for Race #12!

I’ve been fortunate to feel pretty good most of the year.  However, the last month or so my hips have really been bothering me and my knee is starting to hurt again.  I really don’t want to make a visit to Dr. Kittredge this close to being done.  So my plan in getting ready for Richmond is to rest! I’m still going to be a couple runs this week, but not as much as was on my original training plan.  I don’t like to rest – I feel like I should be doing something or all my hours training will be wasted.  I know rest is important but sometimes it’s so hard to do!  I want to have a really good run in Richmond and I know if I feel like I felt yesterday that won’t be the case.

Something else that will hopefully help get me ready for Saturday is the massage I have scheduled for Wednesday night.  I cannot put into words how much I am looking forward to it!!  :)

On a random note – today was the 40th New York City Marathon!  In 1970, Fred Lebow organized the 1st NYC Marathon.  127 runners paid an entry fee of $1 to run 26.2 miles that looped several times thru Central Park.  55 runners crossed the finish line.  Today, the race is run thru all 5 NYC boroughs.  Runners must enter their names into a lottery to get into the race. If you are fortunate enough to have your name drawn it’s a $196 entry fee (plus the $11 processing fee to get your name into the lottery).  Last year 43,660 runners crossed the finish line.  Congratulations to Shalane Flanagan from the US who finished in 2nd place for the women.  It was her first marathon – quite a way to finish :)

Have a great week!

–Michelle
